Significato della canzone
"Bad Romance" di Lady Gaga è un manifesto del desiderio ossessivo e contraddittorio, dove amore e distruzione si fondono in un unico impulso. La voce narrante non chiede un amore idealizzato ma vuole tutto dell'altro: il brutto, la malattia, il dramma, la vendetta - un possesso totale che accetta anche il lato più oscuro della relazione.
Le immagini si susseguono cinematografiche e feticiste, tra riferimenti a horror, criminalità e vertigine, costruendo un'estetica glamour-inquietante tipica dell'immaginario dell'artista: moda, teatralità, corpo esibito come arma e come gabbia. Il francese che irrompe nel ritornello ("je veux ton amour, et je veux ta revanche") rafforza il tono da dichiarazione drammatica, quasi teatrale.
Alla fine resta il paradosso del titolo: un romanticismo "cattivo", tossico ma irresistibile, in cui l'amore stesso diventa una relazione di potere fatta di attrazione e rivincita, incapace di accontentarsi della semplice amicizia.
