Significato della canzone
"Thunder" degli Imagine Dragons racconta la trasformazione di un outsider in una figura pubblica, usando l'immagine del fulmine che precede il tuono come metafora della tensione che si accumula prima dell'esplosione. Il protagonista si descrive come un ragazzo irrequieto, insofferente alle regole, che sognava qualcosa di più grande della propria vita quotidiana, rifiutando di adattarsi a schemi imposti da altri.
Nella seconda parte emerge il contrasto tra il passato di scherno subito tra i banchi di scuola e il presente di riscatto, quando chi rideva si ritrova ora tra il pubblico.
